Hyperactive Air freshener

Air Freshener

What's wrong with a little air freshener?
This one senses when someone walks past and blasts them.  It times out. How clever!
Too much.
As a rule air fresheners are full of unnecessary chemicals and most don't seem to be into recyclable or refillable alternatives. Air fresheners in the first place are a peculiar frivolity. But reactive air fresheners?

The Why

What is misplaced technology? And why should you care? Why do *I* care?

We humans are consuming ourselves into oblivion, we continue to multiply, and we make ever expanding demands on the world around us, abusing resources and wasting them to manufacture and distribute ridiculous crap that we simply don't need. This is  really more of a catalog of the nonsense that we humans are capable of producing.

What if we put the time and energy into developing things that would ameliorate our effects on the planet instead of these things....

???

I often get really hopeless about these sorts of things. It's depressing.
Really? super fast drying nail polish is more important than efficient water management?
The last time I checked, people can live without super-fast drying nail polish. Water. You try taking water out of your life and see what happens (Beer and soda contain water,  kids) Seems to me  clean water is what we really need to work on. And clean air. And less plastic in the ocean. Less plastic in general.

I am sure my own personally hypocrisies will surface. I take airplaces, drink coffee and buy frozen food. I am not  (yet) some saintly being who has managed to strip my life down to the true basics and necessities. But I do believe we can do better. If we can manage to come up with these ideas and then manufacture and sell them, well, we can do a lot more.

I want to cry but I am trying to laugh - and I hope that we can take the ingenuity behind this misplaced technology and put it to some nobler use...
